Flowcrete’s pioneering screed and sound-proofing combination system has been specified for a large scale installation in the Middle East.

The global flooring company – which has its headquarters in Sandbach, Cheshire - has secured a project to install Isocrete Acoustic K at the luxury Fairmont Palm Residence Hotel and Resort, being built within the exclusive Palm Jumeirah Development in Dubai.

This is the latest success for Flowcrete in the Middle East, which last month announced it had won its largest ever contract - involving the installation of its car-park decking system Deckshield - at the Jumeirah Lakes Towers Development, also in Dubai.

At the Fairmont Palm Residence Hotel and Resort, Acoustic K is being installed in all 558 of the deluxe apartments, across 23,000 square metres.

Flowcrete Middle East Managing Director Andrew Gwyther said, “This is a significant achievement for us and we are proud to be involved in such a prestigious development.

“The developers and architects were keen to ensure that any noise generated within the apartment buildings was not transferred to occupants below or above. This unique screed system will help achieve that.”

Acoustic K combines noise-reduction efficiency with the proven performance of Isocrete screeds, which have been used in house building projects across the UK and across the globe for almost 40 years.

Flowcrete launched Acoustic K last year for the UK market – where it is designed to take the strain out of compliance with Approved Document E for house builders – as well as internationally.

The system complies with Building Regulations, is approved by the British Board of Agrément and offers a weight-saving reduced screed thickness. It also allows for an early installation of floor finishes over the substrate.

In the UK it can be installed as part of Flowcrete’s unique Floorzone solution – which includes the screeds, combined with Isocrete Acoustic K and Isowarm underfloor heating, as well as Flowcrete’s range of seamless floors.

With the Floorzone concept, the entire floor - involving screed, soundproofing, heating and finish - are designed and supplied by Flowcrete and installed by one Flowcrete-approved contractor.

Alan Dean, sales director of Flowcrete in the UK, said: “Isocrete Acoustic K is a complete system, not just components, and has been brought into the market with an emphasis on a quality installation.

“Test results from independent sources show it achieved results well in excess of the requirements set out by Approved Document E, of the Building Regulations 2003.

“The system will deliver peace of mind for house builders that they can achieve a high acoustic performance and performance screed, with just one contractor responsible for the entire procedure.”

Flowcrete has reinforced its position as a premier global flooring company with a large scale installation at Dubai International Airport – one of the largest projects ever undertaken by the company.

A selection of Flowcrete’s specialist systems – including screeds, car park decking, hygienic and fast-track floors - have all been applied within the new Terminal 3 and Concourse 2 developments.

Alan Dean, Sales Director of Flowcrete, which has its international headquarters in Cheshire, said: “The range of products used at Dubai International Airport and the sheer scale of the installation process demonstrates Flowcrete’s ability to undertake the world’s largest and most prestigious construction projects.”

Flowcrete products installed include the time proven Isocrete K-Screed - specified for airport developments across the globe for more than 30 years – which was used at the multi-storey car-park facilities. Around 40,000 square metres of Isocrete K-Screed were also installed within the passenger setdown area of the Departures Hall.

A total of 366,000 square metres of Flowcrete’s decking system Deckshield has also been installed - across all five levels of the car park, including the exposed top deck.

The Deckshield system was also applied in other high traffic areas including all service roads underneath the Terminal Complex, the baggage handling areas and plant rooms.

For the kitchen facilities within the development, Flowcrete’s Flowfresh system was installed. Recognised for its durability and ease of cleaning, the seamless polyurethane floor incorporates Polygiene, which utilisies the natural purification capabilities of silver to deliver around the clock protection against a wide range of different bacteria.

Finally, Flowfast Quartz - Flowcrete’s fast-track floor ready for use just hours after installation - was applied in the cold storage area.

The project is the latest success for Flowcrete in the Middle East. In Autumn, the company announced it had won its largest ever contract - involving the installation of its car-park decking system Deckshield - at Dubai’s Jumeirah Lakes Towers Development.

Flowcrete - which has a regional office in Dubai - has also secured another large scale contract in the Emirate, to apply its sound performance system Isocrete Acoustic K at the luxury Fairmont Palm Residence Hotel and Resort, being built within the exclusive Palm Jumeirah Development.

Jane Shepherd asked:

Specialist flooring company Flowcrete has secured its largest ever deal - an £8 million contract at one of the world’s most exclusive skyscraper developments, being built in the United Arab Emirates.

The company is to install more than one million square metres of its Deckshield car park decking system at the Jumeirah Lakes Towers, in Dubai.

Flowcrete-approved contractor Pegasus, which is based in the neighbouring Emirate of Sharjah, will be installing the decking system in the podium car parks of the 26 tri-clusters - representing 78 of the development’s 82 towers.

The Jumeirah Lakes Towers Development is a waterfront community located along Dubai’s Sheikh Zayed Road, comprising office and residential towers set alongside hotels and retail units. The towers - many of which are already under construction -are being built in clusters of three around four man-made lakes and among landscaped gardens.

Deckshield will be used in car parks, which are located at the bottom of each of the towers.

The system has been chosen – in a red and grey colour scheme – for its aesthetic qualities and its ability to bridge dynamic cracking, which can be caused by high traffic density.

Deckshield’s anti-slip surface also ensures safety underfoot and reduces tyre squeal. Furthermore, it is chemical resistant, so able to deal with petrol, diesel or brake fluid spillages

Flowcrete employs 360 people across the world and 65 at its UK headquarters, based in Sandbach, South Cheshire.

It comes as Flowcrete enjoys major growth in the Middle East, where it has offices in Dubai and Qatar

Led by Flowcrete Middle East Managing Director, Andrew Gwyther, the company has expanded from 2 people to twelve and has seen business triple in the last twelve months, with a turnover of £4 million.

Mark Greaves, group managing director of Flowcrete, said: “This is an exceptional project for us, which will take about two years to complete.”

As well as Deckshield, Flowcrete manufactures specialist industrial flooring, seamless terrazzo, decorative resin flooring, self levelling floor screeds, underfloor heating and corrosion protection systems.

The company now has 30 offices worldwide, with manufacturing plants in the UK, USA, Malaysia, South Africa, Sweden and Belgium.
