Dubai’s geographical proximity to India has to a large extent been responsible for making it a port of call for foreign tradesman. The ‘Jabel Ali Port ‘is supposedly one of the largest man made ports of the world. Dubai is said to hold some of the most amazing architectural structures of the world. This has been reason enough to provide Dubai with the opportunity to cater to a large number of tourists every year. The Western section forms the locality of ‘Bur Dubai’. Much of Dubai’s real estate boom has been concentrated to the west of this region i.e. along ‘Sheikh Zayed Road’.

Though the whole of Dubai has a lot to offer to it’s visitors, the Sheikh Zayed Road, one of the main arteries of Dubai, is considered to be the most happening place of Dubai. If one aspires to get the real taste of Dubai, then this is the place for them. Some of the famous landmarks like ‘Port Rashid’, ‘Jabel Ali’, ‘Burj Al Arab’, ‘Palm Jumeirah’ and theme based free zone clusters such as ‘Business Bay’ are all located in this section. To add a star to this ever so charming city, although Arabic is the official language of Dubai, Persian, Malyalam, Bengali, English, Urdu, Tamil and even Hindi are widely spoken by the people here. The official currency of Dubai is ‘Dirham’.

Dubai is known to have quite a number of shopping malls like ‘Marcato Mall’, ‘Ibn Battuta Mall’ and ‘Mall of Emirates’ to name a few. However, one of the star attractions of Dubai which is the chief reason why the city get’s to see million’s of tourists teeming into the city every year is the ‘Dubai Shopping festival’. This month long event is usually scheduled during the first quarter of the year. Tourists from all across the world are lured not only for Dubai’s tax free shopping, but also for all the events that take place during the festival. The event is marked by heavy discounts on merchandise and fireworks which make the skyline sparkle like gold making it literally seem like a ‘city of gold’.

Well, for all those who prefer to sit back and experience the luxury of this city, Dubai has some of the best hotels to offer. The ‘Burj Al Arab’ is a luxury hotel , used exclusively as a hotel. It is the tallest building and stands on an artificial island out from Jumeirah beach, connected to the mainland by a private curving bridge. It’s an iconic structure designed to mimic the sail of a boat. Some of the other sought after hotels of Dubai are ‘Grand Hyatt Hotel’, ‘Jumeirah Emirates Tower Hotel’ and a few more.

Dubai also has a lot to offer to it’s young visitors. The ‘Falconcity of Wonders’ is one of the star attractions for the children. It’s a project to build a city in Dubai with replicas of the Seven Wonders of the World added to the modern wonders such as Eiffel Tower. It is believed that when viewed from the space the city will form the shape of a falcon.

There is also something for the music lovers in Dubai. Dubai is known for it’s ‘Bedouin’ folk music. A famous band of Dubai is the ‘Sandwash Band’, known for it’s groove core music, which typically features themes about lustful relationships.

Though Dubai is believed to be a land of deserts, one step on this land is enough to wash out this premonition. All these attractions only add more hue to this already colorful city. The city has to offer something to every body who comes onto this land.

Contemporary furnishings, the latest amenities and a cosmopolitan outlook are the key highlights of the apartments at Lake View. Every bedroom offers an array of spectacular scenes of the lake, and many of them are attached to walkout balconies. The bedrooms have also been designed to accommodate a variety of bed configurations, and many of them are outfitted with private en-suite bathrooms.

Superbly finished walls, floors and flooring, and maximised views from every room are just some of the thoughtful design features. The living areas, suffused with natural light streaming in from the windows, serve many functions that include entertaining and relaxing. All the apartments are also equipped with large, private balconies offering unhindered views from various locations inside the apartment.

Cities Look on the map! Is it Las Vegas? Is it New York City? Is it Miami? No, it is Dubai, the city that is experiencing the biggest construction boom of any city in the world. The most lavish and progressive emirate of the UAE obviously is thinking big, as everything raised here is the largest, the grandest or the most luxurious ever. Dubai currently boasts having the largest shopping mall, the largest manmade island and marina, and the tallest five-star resort hotel in the world. Building marinas and islands on deserts is a majestic feat that is a phenomenal accomplishment.

Since this enclave may one day soon be the most luxurious destination on the planet, we thought a little intelligence on lodgings, fine dining, and things to do would be appropriate.

Luxury Hotels in Dubai

Crowne Plaza Dubai is, that is, at least for now, Dubais most centrally located five-star hotel. It is on Sheikh Zayed Road and directly opposite the World Trade Centre, the International Convention Centre, and the Emirates Towers. Dubai International Airport is a 15-minute drive from the hotel, and a short distance from the Media City, the Internet City and the Knowledge Village. The hotel is part of the InterContinental Hotel Group. The Montgomerie, Dubai, features a championship golf course, a full service spa by Angsana Spa, an array of fine-dining options, and great proximity to daytime and nighttime fun activities. The Jumeirah Beach Hotel, which was built to resemble a breaking wave surging through the blue frothy waters, has its own private beach on the shoreline of the Arabian Gulf. The visually and physically exhilarating Wild Wadi Water Park also is on the premises. Jumeriahs striking architectural imagery is on display twice in Dubai with the Burj Al Arab. The billowing sail-shaped hotel was named the best hotel in the world by the Institutional Investor Magazine and the 2007 World Travel Awards.

Best Restaurants in Dubai

Century Village is a modern-day food village with an array of fine dining restaurants located in a central courtyard with fountains, rocks, benches and greenery. Restaurants include menus and influences of Portugal, Italy, Persia, India, the Mediterranean, Japan, France, Britain, and Arabia. The Yakitori House, which is located in the Ascot Hotel, is regarded as one of the best Japanese-themed restaurants of Dubai. The decorum and the menu share the same level of excellence. Ashas offers contemporary cuisine of India. The opulently designed complex puts patrons in an Old World ambiance in the middle of some of the most futuristic manmade environments ever raised.

To Do in Dubai

The entire city is a tribute to visionary architecture and ingenuity. There is the World Trade Centre, the Wild Wadi Water Park, and the Mall of the Emirates. The Mall of Emiates is the largest shopping center in the Middle East with approximately 6.5 million square feet of shopping space. It is so large that there is an indoor ski slope, Ski Dubai, inside the mall. The mall is a shoppers haven with more than 450 upscale stores and boutiques, such as Dolce & Gabbana, Ermenegildo Zegna, Hugo Boss, Louis Vuitton, Tiffany & Company, and many more. Dubai has several major malls. It is one of the largest importers of luxury goods. The majority of nightlife occurs at the major resorts that offer fine dining and nightclubs. There are numerous manmade parks to enjoy.

When completed the Dubai Marina will be the largest manmade marina in the world. It is a city within a city. There are skyscrapers and moors for megayachts. The marina will have more than 200 high-rise buildings around it. Charter a motor or a sailing yacht with the Bristol Middle East Yacht Solution.

Dubai has many outdoor attractions. There are championship golf courses, spas, water sports, and desert adventures. Sporting events in Dubai include the world’s richest horserace at the Dubai World Cup at Nad Al-Sheba; the Dubai Desert Classic Golf Tournament, the Dubai Tennis Championships, Rugby Sevens, the Emirates Grand Prix power-boating; the UAE Desert Challenge, and camel racing.

Dubai is a city built on free trade, openness to foreign investment and good business practice. This is nothing new.

In 1901 Sheikh Maktoum bin Hasher Al Maktoum established Dubai as a free port, abolished all tariffs and began a programme to persuade merchants from the Iranian city of Lingah to relocate to the Dubai Creek.

A natural harbour the Creek was critical to the early development of Dubai. But even by the Second World War Dubai was still a small town with a population of around 20,000.

Dubai’s real economic development began in the 1950s when the late Sheikh Rashid bin Saeed Al Maktoum dredged the Dubai Creek, significantly expanding its capacity and rapidly repaying a loan from the Emir of Kuwait. Sheikh Rashid also founded the Dubai airport and established the first hotel in Dubai in 1959.

Dubai’s luxury hotels really are beyond compare. But the trouble is that while usually the word luxury can separate the majority of accommodation in any given country fairly evenly, in Dubai top notch lodgings are so common that the term ‘luxury’ has been completely devalued. When it comes to luxury hotels in Dubai, you need a new category to separate the luxurious to those which are almost beyond words for their decadence.

Here’s the five I would highlight for extra special treatment. Sure, they’ll cost you, but for an extra special luxury holiday in Dubai they’re worth their weight in gold.

One and Only Residence and Spa

You know you’re in some brand of paradise when half the spacious rooms lead straight out onto the private beach, and that’s just scratching the surface of what makes the One and Only Residence and Spa one of the finest luxury hotels in Dubai. The staff are attentive and nothing is too much trouble for them, but the thing that sets this one apart is just how relaxing it all is - the hotel is like a sanctuary away from the troubles of the modern world. Whether your idea of paradise is a full body massage or basking in the sun on a private beach, the One and Only Residence and Spa provides you with almost everything you could want without needing to leave your hotel!

Palace of the Royal Mirage

Any hotel that evokes a sensation similar to being royalty must be luxurious in my book, and it’s actually a tradition of the hotel to bang a gong for new visitors. The service is unbelievable, and the staff will try to make you feel comfortable as best they can, doing anything from giving you a choice of rooms, to bringing round fruit kebabs and cleaning your sunglasses by the poolside. The executive rooms are splendidly furnished, and have free access to the gold lounge, where you can gorge on a seemingly endless supply of fruit, soft drinks, cakes and sandwiches. You can visit the hotel and never need to leave the grounds, such is the level of service, the facilities and the activities available to the guests who choose this as the base for their luxury holiday in Dubai.

Al Murooj Rotana

The Al Murooj Rotana hotel stands out from the first moment you see it, and you know upon entering the spacious, glamorous lobby that you are in for something special for the duration of your stay. The hotel is immaculately clean, with room cleanings at least twice a day, and nothing is too much trouble for the staff. Although this hotel feels more suited to business types, the facilities are welcoming to all comers, and the more focussed business clientele means there is less competition to the world class swimming pool - the perfect place to cool off from the heat of Dubai on your luxury holiday.

Jumeirah Beach Hotel

As the name suggests, one of the biggest attractions of the luxury hotel in Dubai is the location. And the private beach is every bit as enticing as you’d expect from a hotel that names itself after it! Indeed, the theme of water and sands is extended to the shape of the hotel itself, which appears from the distance to mirror a giant breaking wave: this is one hotel that seems to hold the philosophy that if things can’t be done amazingly, they should not be done at all. As is the norm for these luxury hotels in Dubai, service is outstanding, and the rooms are both comfortable, welcoming and an aesthetic delight. This is also one Dubai luxury hotel where children are not only welcomed, but seemingly encouraged by the unlimited free access to the neighbouring Wild Wadi Water Park - which opens exclusively to hotel residents an hour early.

Burj Al Arab

The Burj Al Arab certainly is an unforgettable sight - towering above the Dubai coastline at a height of 321 metres, and with a unique look resembling a billowing sail you’d be forgiven for thinking that this was a way of covering up insufficiencies elsewhere. Yet amazingly, the service, style and ‘feel’ of the famous luxury hotel in Dubai is echoed throughout, and has been recognised as the ‘best of the world’ by both the Institutional Investor Magazine and the World Travel Awards. This is one of the friendliest, stunning and comfortable hotels in the world, let alone Dubai - if you can afford it, this is THE place to stay.

Frankly, any one of these luxury hotels in Dubai will offer an unforgettable experience, which puts many European 5 star hotels to shame in terms of service, aesthetics and old fashioned pampering. Spoil yourself this summer with a luxury holiday to Dubai beyond decadence!

Before we take a look at some of the tourist attractions in Dubai, here are some facts and information about this Middle Eastern city.

Dubai is one of the seven emirates that made up the oil rich United Arab Emirates commonly referred to as UAE. This city sits snug in the eastern Arabian Peninsula and is also UAE’s main city.

The emirate of Dubai was created with the formation of the UAE in1971 although there are some documents to suggest that the city was already in existence a century or two before the formation of UAE. Dubai has a population of about 1.5 million people at the time of writing. It has the largest population in comparison to the other emirates and is the second largest emirate by land area, after Abu Dhabi.

However, according to the census done by the Statistics Center of Dubai, only about 17 percent its population is made up of UAE nationals and the rest are made up of expatriates, foreign workers and tourists.

Arabic is the official language of Dubai, but Persian, Malayalam, Urdu, Bengali, Tamil, English, Hindi, and Tagalog are widely spoken because of the many foreigners living in Dubai.

Dubai City is not a tour destination that it is easily explored on foot because many of its tourist attractions such as Deira and Jumeirah Beach are located far apart from each other. Here are some tourist attractions you must visit if you are heading to Dubai for your vacation.

Bastakiya - Bastakiya district is located at East of Dubai Souk on Al-Fahidi Street.

Way back in the days before there was electricity for fans and air-conditioning, Dubai Creek used to have numerous wind towers that kept the homes cool from the blistering dessert heat. Touring the Bastakiya district is like taking a step back in time travel because of the many traditional courtyard houses still have the wind towers.

The Bastakiya district is now undergoing massive reconstruction for its transformation into a “tourist village”.

Palm Islands - The famous Palm Islands (so called because of its palm like shape), is actually a grouping of three islands and is said to be visible from the moon. The Palm Island is an incredible largest manmade island in the world. A large part of Palm Islands is still undergoing tremendous construction at the time of writing this article.

There are about 7,000 apartments and 1,800 villas and townhouses on The Palm, Jumeirah. Jumeirah will also offer an outstanding array of retail and lifestyle options for residents and tourists when construction is fully completed.

The Golden Mile when completed will offer the world’s most exclusive brands with an international array of boutiques, shops, restaurants and cafes.

As an exclusive tie up between The Trump Organization and Nakheel Group, The Palm Jumeirah will feature a number of Trump properties, including The Palm Trump International Hotel and Tower.

The Crescent Island will feature luxurious international hotels in Dubai and situated near The Crescent are a number of fascinating dive sites to thrill scuba divers.

Sheikh Saeed Al-Maktoum’s House - Sheikh Saeed Al-Maktoum’s House, near Al-Shindagha Tunnel, Al-Shindagha Road is one of the oldest homes in the city, as well as one of the best examples of traditional Arabic architecture. The house was built exclusivly with sandstone in 1896 and offers panoramic views of the sea. Sadly though, the fantastic view is now slightly obscured by the more modern developments.

The Sheikh who was a former ruler of Dubai used the house to monitor trading in and out of the country. This tourist attraction was reopened as a museum in 1986 contains an exhibition showcasing the development of Dubai from 1940s to1960s.

Children’s City - Tourists with children will be delighted to take the kids the Children’s City, located at Creekside Park. The Children’s City was opened in 2002 and is a smashing hit with children and their delighted parents.

This 7,700 sq-m (83,000 sq ft) wonderland takes young minds on a journey through the human body, science and space, with the help of different ‘zones’. There are also plenty of hands-on activities to keep even the most playful children occupied. All exhibits in this city are in English and Arabic.

Jumeirah Mosque - The Jumeirah Mosque on Al-Jumeirah Road is perhaps the most photographed building by tourists in Dubai because of its impressive example of modern Islamic architecture. Built along medieval Fatimid lines and entirely of stone, the Jumeirah Mosque with its two minarets is particularly beautiful in the night when subtle lighting increases the mosque’s dramatic effect.

Grand Mosque - The Grand Mosque in Ali ibin Ali Talib Street was only rebuilt in 1998 with the city’s tallest minaret standing at an impressive 70m (231ft) tall. The Grand Mosque is made up of nine large domes and 45 smaller ones. This mosque can accommodate up to 1,200 worshippers.

Souks - The souks, or traditional markets, are one of Dubai’s most popular tourist attractions. The souks are located on both sides of the creek, with the most impressive ones on the Deira side.

The highlight of this tourist attraction is the colorful and bustling Spice Market where tourist can find local delights like exotic perfumes and watch noisy locals bargaining with vendors.

Dubai Museum - Not to be missed is the Dubai Museum in Al-Fahidi Fort. The museum itself is actually a historic fort, dating back to 1799. It was only converted into a museum in 1970. The exhibits in the museum ranges from ancient weapons, pearl-diving outfits to an impressive range of military artifacts.

Some of the most intriguing exhibits are those discovered from the 3000 to 4000-year-old graves at Al-Ghusais.

Heritage Village - The Heritage Village is located at Shindagha Tunnel, Al-Shindagha Road and as the name suggests, it is an attempt to weave in some local traditional heritage in contrast to Dubai’s rapidly developing modern skyline.

The objective of the project is to recreate the Bedouin way of life, with locals dressed up in traditional Arabic garbs, exhibit traditional handicrafts, music and dance.

Jumeirah Beach - Although much of the famous pristine crystal clear water of Jumeirah Beach located at Al-Jumeirah Road is dominated by luxury hotels and 5 star accommodations, some of the hotels do allow non hotel guests to use their pools and stretches of beach if they dine at the hotels or pay a nominal usage fee.

Dubai City may be more famous for its skyscrapers, malls and beach resorts than for museums and culture, but don’t be fooled - there’s plenty of cultural sights to see as part of a luxury holiday to Dubai. Many people don’t stray beyond the comforts of their resorts while on their Dubai holidays, but they would be missing out on the mosques, museums and markets that still stand out as star attractions amidst the high rise metropolis that Dubai is rapidly becoming.

Here are five of the biggest cultural highlights to experience while on holiday in Dubai…

Dubai Museum

This museum is a perfect first stop on a Dubai holiday, giving you a crash course in the history of the country and an insight into its culture. The building of the Dubai museum is itself a piece of history, as it is located in the Al Fahidi Fort which was built to protect Dubai from naval invaders over two hundred years ago. Step inside, and you are treated to a range of exhibits that showcase the evolution of Dubai, from its tribal beginnings to the international business centre that it has become today. Highlights include a traditional instruments display, an impressive collection of weaponry and a number of staged dioramas that dramatically depict significant events in Dubai’s history.

Bastakiya District

While much of Dubai City is now formed of modern skyscrapers, the Bastakiya District gives you a glimpse of Dubai as it once was. Located just next to the Dubai Museum, Bastakiya is a collection of traditional buildings, each built around a central courtyard and cooled by its own wind tower. It is a superbly preserved series of buildings, interspersed with art galleries, shops, restaurants and cafes, and is a great place to visit as part of a cultural holiday in Dubai.

The Souks

Souk is the Arabic word for market - the traditional place where everyday goods are bought and sold by the ordinary people of the city. Most travellers on a Dubai luxury holiday will know about the legendary Gold Souk, and plenty more will be tempted to the air-conditioned luxury of the souks in the city centre. For a real taste of the Arabic marketplace, head over to the smaller, more traditional souks that are scattered across the city, selling everything from spices, to clothing, food and much more. They are the perfect place to pick up souvenirs for your Dubai holiday, but come prepared to haggle - if you get the traders down to 50% of their original asking price, it’s a good start, down to a 1/3 and you’re doing great, any lower than that and you might want to consider becoming a trader yourself!

Jumeirah Mosque

When most people think of Jumeirah, they think of the beach or the resort hotel, but the Jumeirah mosque is an unmissable place to visit while on holiday in Dubai. It is the only mosque in Dubai which non-Muslims are permitted to enter, giving you the rare opportunity to experience the amazing architecture and religious art up close. Make sure that you dress respectfully when you visit, with clothes covering past the ankle and elbow.

Miraj Islamic Art Gallery

Art lovers on a Dubai holiday need look no further - the Miraj is one of the best collections of Islamic art in the Middle East. It has a collection of artworks from across the region; jewelled Indian dresses, Turkish brass engravings, antique carpets from Iran, and much more. It combines a mixture of older items with a contemporary section that is regularly refreshed by the galleries in house artists, and everything that you see is for sale (though the antique items are likely to be out of your price range unless you are a millionaire or an art dealer!)

FThere’s a wide range of apartments and villas available in Dubai, both within and outside enclosed compounds.

Most visitors are pleasantly surprised when they see the city of Dubai for the first time, its modern architecture co-existing with traditional houses and ancient wind-towers. New buildings are often spectacular, as oil has provided the money for the best architects, builders and materials. Indeed, there’s competition between developers, who tend to be wealthy merchant families, to build the most impressive structure.

Many construction projects are under way and, when you’re choosing accommodation, you should check whether further construction is planned on surrounding land, as the resulting noise, dust and general inconvenience can be intrusive, sometimes for 24 hours per day.

Although developments are continuing, however, fewer lower priced properties are being constructed, as the demand for unskilled workers in the region is declining.

The slowdown reported in apartment sales in Dubai has not been apparent for villas. Even off-plan villa sales are still going strong, and the re-sale market remains a seller’s market. This new dynamic to the market has been developing for some time.

The mismatch between the supply of villas and the latent demand has been apparent for many years. In the early days of the first Dubai Marina apartment sales Emaar Properties noted huge demand for the very small number of villa units at the base of the development.

This is one reason why Emaar went on to build the 2,000 villa Meadows and 4,000 town-house Springs developments, and then the very successful Arabian Ranches project. The first two schemes sold out long ago, though the release of villas at The Arabian Ranches continues. Nakheel enjoyed similar success with its 6,000 Jumeirah Islands villas.

The shortage of Dubai property for rent has caused a great number of problems for the city’s residents who are at present extremely frustrated and annoyed with the exorbitant cost of living in this city. Sharing apartments and/or villas seems to be the most feasible thing to do given the markets present situation. Some prefer the option of commuting from neighboring Emirates like Sharjah and Ajman.

While high rents remain an issue with Dubai property rentals, it is only making the case for ownership of property a stronger and more viable option. For Dubai’s current property owners, the rental money their property commands continues to remain rosy and comfortable for the future.

Due to the high demand for Dubai Property rental, investors are clamoring to buy more of the latest and hottest international property. As new residents flock to the city and the population continues to expand, investing in Dubai property rentals is almost a guaranteed return on investment in this growing city.
